Statement on behalf of Flushing Commons Sponsor Phase 2 JV LLC (ownership)

The privately-owned parking lot located at 37-01 138th Street at Flushing Commons – also known as Flushing Commons Phase 2 Parking – will remain closed temporarily due to structural safety concerns following a routine inspection by the New York City Department of Buildings. There is nothing more important than the life safety of the Flushing community and visitors. This decision was based strictly on safety – our number one priority – and the swift restoration of parking for the community.
We are already in the process of scheduling demolition at the 65-year-old site, which was originally slated to take place as part of ongoing improvements and construction at Flushing Commons. We are pursuing the proper permitting immediately to be followed by the demolition and the completion timeline will be determined as we move forward in this process.
We understand the loss of parking capacity is an inconvenience. In the meantime, there are a variety of alternate parking options available in the surrounding area. Flushing Commons Phase 1 below ground parking and its 982 spaces remain open nearby, where we are now offering the same rate as Phase 2. Please refer to this map for parking options in the area.
